Our History

Foreword

Over the span of a century and sixty four years the glorious Grace of God has sustained the love, unity, and life of Liberty Baptist Church.

From 1852 to 1985 the church has continued her mission of reaching people for Jesus Christ.  Over these years, her people have found the most valuable character of life is agape love.  Each generation has learned the supreme importance of unifying in the purpose and will of God, and even at the age of 164 years her ministries continue to blossom new life.

To be sure, the church has faced many difficult trials.  Yet, each trial patiently endured with faith has eventually faded in the sunshine of victory.

There has been no more challenging time in history than in the life of our church.  After the invention of the steam engine by Thomas Newcomen, a technological revolution changed the world.  Man’s curiosity brought rapid change as he sought new ways to meet his needs.  In the lifetime of our church alone, the world has traveled from a horse and buggy to the space shuttle, from the use of a coal oil lamp to the power of electricity, from the civil war to the threat of nuclear war, from the endless labor of cooking upon a wood burning stove to preparing a complete meal in minutes using a microwave oven.

Such vast change not only brought convenience but it brought complexities.  Responding to the increasing needs of our community has taken a lifetime of commitment from our members.  Life is no longer simple.  As the world rapidly changed so did man’s values and principles.  But Liberty Baptist has met a lost and confused world with a saving answer.  Jesus Christ crucified, risen, and coming again has been that message of hope for 133 years.  This good news has reached into the hearts of countless numbers who would otherwise have been lost, empty, and without hope.

It is unfortunate as we read this brief history of our church that we cannot experience the celebration of seeing lives changed in their present hour.  But we can give thanks for the Living Grace of God that prevailed over Liberty Baptist Church each challenging year.

As we read, let us remember our purpose in looking back.  May it serve as a spiritual encouragement for going forward in Christ.
